Conjuring artifice and dark humour in the face of extraction, financial fantasies, and the illusions of techno-solutionism, abandon all hope ye who enter here explores the limits of refusal in a computationally ordered and altered world. Bringing together nine artists and collectives, the works in the exhibition materialise the strange realities and cruel attachments that are often obscured beneath the veneers of shiny, seductive interfaces, and inside algorithmic black boxes.

Sinking Alloyances + Planetary Burial

 

Sinking Alloyances + Planetary Burial is the ninth entry to the ROCK REPO – an ongoing enquiry into computational, mineral time and matter.

Artist collective The Underground Division (Helen Pritchard, Jara Rocha, Femke Snelting) have created a new audiovisual installation (3D renderings, models, sound and text) presented at the newly transformed Eco Gallery at Wat Tyler Country Park.

Planetary estuary environments are recognised for their capacities to capture and store carbon, known as carbon sequestering. Quantified, measured and commodified as sinks for so-called ‘bluecarbon’, saltmarshes are rendered back into the flows of carbon trade.

This new artwork meditates on what it means to compute the volumes of carbon that are ‘buried’; the microbiomes and topologies, held together by root lattices of cordgrass in estuaries and mangroves across the world. Showing the liveliness and abundance of estuaries that is in excess of capture.

Subvertir las lógicas desde con a pesar de mediante las tecnologías

Esta residencia virtual busca generar un espacio de trabajo híbrido, colectivo y de intercambio de pensamiento crítico, dando lugar a una investigación colaborativa y desobediente ante corpus disciplinares rígidos, que tome como punto de partida las líneas de reflexión que le investigadore Jara Rocha ha llevado a cabo, junto con Femke Snelting, alrededor de los regímenes del volumen. Partiendo de este concepto, que se refiere a aquellas políticas, ideologías, paradigmas, subjetividades o cánones que se esconden tras las materias volumétricas (es decir, del 3D) en los entornos digitales, el grupo de trabajo tutorizado por le propie autore del libro Regímenes del volumen (Volumetric Regimes, 2021), ahondará en los procesos subversivos para detectar, nombrar y practicar los posibles de las lógicas establecidas en los ecosistemas digitales, partiendo de cómo la volumetría participa de lo corporal, lo vegetal, lo mineral o lo planetario como consigna inicial del laboratorio.

Con interés en generar espacios oblicuos de encuentro y métodos de creación que diverjan de lo que se entiende como productivo, lo eficaz o lo eficiente, la residencia busca ser un asidero para el cruce entre diversas corrientes de pensamiento y trabajos artísticos iberoamericanos en materia de políticas transfeministas, antifascistas y anticoloniales desde el entorno web a muchas otras partes. Para ello, se tendrá en cuenta un código de conducta específico, se trabajará con una licencia libre a consensuar para el espacio de trabajo, donde la autoría de todo contenido producido será decidida situadamente, generando una respons(h)abilidad retroactiva con respecto a nuestras acciones.

La residencia se desarrollará a partir de una serie de encuentros online entre lxs participantes, realizando a su vez un ejercicio constante de traducción, anotación (en un pad o documento online de edición grupal, alojado en un servidor feminista) y (re)mediación del proceso y contenido, con la intención de generar otros modos de circulación y producción de conocimientos y preguntas, que obren por una ensanchación de saberes y sensibilidades.

Se contempla un tiempo de apertura de la residencia para el público, que se dará al final del festival a modo de conversatorio online, previsto para el 29 de abril y diseñado/activado en colectivo con:

The necessary infrastructure that is put in place effects our understanding of place, both virtually and physically and it has become increasingly difficult to be intimate with the technologies that we feel familiar with. We started to wonder about what would make current networking technologies into hospitable habitats for critique, as space for artists and solidarity, teaching and learning.

What does it mean to serve and to host? What should server technology of today be about? How to re-appropriate networks for creative experiment? How to invert, detour, parasite and deflate web 3.0 notions of ’service’?"

UKI game level one @ Piksel.no

La semana que viene presentaremos UKI game level one [infect the city] en Piksel (Bergen, Noruega). Esta parte del proyecto transmedia IKU/UKI, empezó a desarrollarse en Medialab-Prado, y continuó en el SummerLab de LABoral (y posterior residencia).

Shu Lea Cheang estará simultaneamente presentando la performance de UKI en La Internacional Cuir (MNCARS), comisariada por Beatriz Preciado.
